👩‍👩‍👦‍👦Spaces

What are spaces?

Spaces are Fabric's version of folders.

They are flexible cloud workspaces for you to use solo or with others – a dedicated space for a task, idea or a project. You can even think of them as the desktop of a mini cloud computer, with all the apps and content related to a specific task.

Instead of your ideas or tasks being scattered across apps and websites, with Fabric they can be brought together inside the idea or task – which is the way that we actually think.

Fabric spaces knock down the artificial walls so that everything is on one place, with commentary, labelling, collaboration and more. A place to think and get things done.

How do I use a space?

Create a space with one click.

Simply grab content that you've saved to Fabric or that you've connected from an external source and add it to a space (e.g. Google Drive).

A space can be collaborative or solo (and you can change this at any time).

What can I do in a space?

You can:

  • Comment/annotate any individual item

  • Organize assets and ideas in a kanban view / or set labels on things

  • Review content together – use follow mode to view together in real-time

  • Chat with live chat

  • Review the history of all changes made to the space

Feel like you're working side-by-side with multiplayer

Fabric lets you be together with rich presence, shared cursors, chat, a follow feature and more.

To follow or spotlight:

Similar to Figma, you can use this feature to synchronise what you're looking at with others. In Fabric, this means showing the same document to everyone that has access, and the same location within the document – the same page if it's a PDF, and the same timestamp within a video or audio file.

How to use this feature:

  • Hover over your own avatar in the presence bar, and you'll be given the option to spotlight yourself. Others will automatically begin following you.

  • Hover over someone else's avatar in the presence bar, and you'll be given the option to follow them.

For shared cursors:

Simply move your mouse within a document that others have access to – they'll see your mouse if they're also present. This makes it easy to point and demonstrate as your work together.

For cursor chat:

Press CMD+/ on a Mac, or Ctrl+/ on Windows. You'll be able to type beside your cursor, adding commentary to whatever you're pointing at.

How do I invite others to a space?

Simply turn on sharing and copy the invite link.

This will allow others to see the collection, and comment on the content. It also lets the invitee skip the waitlist so that they can collaborate fully with you, modifying/adding to the space, and adding the space to their personal library.
